VI. MỘT SỐ GIỚI TỪ THƯỜNG DÙNG
1. Giới từ chỉ thời gian:
– At: chỉ thời điểm
At five o’clock (vào lúc 5 giờ)
At afternoon (vào buổi trưa)
– On: chỉ ngày, thứ trong tuần hoặc khoảng thời gian trong ngày khi có định ngữ đi cùng.
On Monday (vào ngày thứ hai)
On the first of August (vào ngày đầu tiên của tháng 8)
On the evening of that day (vào buổi tối ngày hôm đó)
– In: Chỉ khoảng thời gian trong ngày hoặc dài hơn như tháng, năm.
in the morning (vào buổi sáng) in August (vào tháng 8) in 2004 (vào năm 2004)
– After: Chỉ thời gian sau một khoảng thời gian hoặc thời điểm nào đó.
after work (sau khi làm xong công việc) after ten a.m (sau 10 giờ sáng)
– Before: Chỉ thời gian trước một khoảng thời gian hoặc thời điểm nào đó.
before Christmas (trước lễ Giáng sinh) before lunchtime (trước giờ ăn trưa)
2. Giới từ chỉ vị trí
– In: trong
in my mind (trong trí nhớ của tôi) in the handbag (trong túi xách tay)
– On : trên
on the table (trên bàn) on the wall (trên tường)
– At (tại, ở phía)
At the right corner (ở phía góc phải)
At home (ở nhà)
– Beside: bên cạnh
Beside the hospital, there is a post office.
(Bên cạnh bệnh viện có một bưu điện.)
– Under: bên dưới
Under the desk (Dưới bàn viết)
Under the sky (Dưới bầu trời)
– Near: gần
Near the lamp (gần cái đèn)
Near the armchair (gần chiếc ghế bành)
– Among: ở trong số
among these rules (trong những quy định đó) among those pictures (trong số những bức tranh đó)
– Between: ở giữa
Between Ha and Lan (giữa Hà và Lan)
Between the Computer and the telephone.
(Ở giữa máy tính và chiếc điện thoại)
– In front of: ở đằng trước
in front of the villa (phía trước ngôi biệt thự) in front of the board (phía trước bảng viết)
– Behind: ở phía sau
behind the theatre (phía sau nhà hát)
behind the bus station (phía sau bến đỗ xe buýt)
– Through: xuyên qua
I will transfer your call through to the director’s office.
(Tôi sẽ chuyển điện thoại của anh/chị qua phòng làm việc của bà hiệu trưởng)
– Into: vào trong
I put my dictionary into the bag.
(Tôi để quyển từ điển của tôi vào trong túi)
– Out of: ra khỏi
He gives his book out of his school bag.
(Anh ấy lấy quyển sách ra khỏi cặp)
– Along: dọc theo
along this Street: dọc theo tuyến phố này.
– From..to…: từ … đến…
From Paris to London (Từ Paris đến London).
– Round: vòng quanh
The Earth goes round the Sun. (Trái đất quay quanh mặt trời.)
– On the right of / on the left of: ở phía bên phải, bên trái của
+ There’s a large parking on the right of the hotel.
(Có một bãi đỗ xe rộng bên phía phải khách sạn.)
+ The stadium is on your left hand side.
(Sân vận động nằm bên tay trái bạn.)

| above (phía trên): | The ceiling is above us. |
| opposite (đối diện): | His house is opposỉte a bookstore. |
| next to (bên cạnh): | A tall handsome man sat next to me on the plane to Ha Noi. |
| over (ở trên): | Long Bien Bridge is over the Red River. |
| under (ở dưới): | Look! The cat is under the bed. |
| inside (phía trong): | Go inside the garden, you will see a very big tree. |
| outside (phía ngoài): | I -am not inside the house. I am outside it now. |
| between (ở giữa): | My house is between the drugstore and the restaurant. |
| among (trong đám): | She is standing among the boys. |
| against (tựa vào): | She put the ladder against the tree. |
