Trọng âm từ – Hướng dẫn ôn tập Trọng âm từ – Ôn thi vào lớp 10 Chuyên Anh

Đối với nhũng từ có hai âm tiết trở lên, có một âm tiết được nhấn mạnh hơn, có cao độ trường độ lớn hơn những âm tiết còn lại, đó là âm tiết có trọng âm chính của từ.

Nhũng từ có ba âm tiết trở lên thương có thêm trọng âm phụ được nhấn nhẹ hơn so với trọng âm chính.

Đọc đúng trọng âm từ trong tiếng Anh là rất quan trọng. Vì vậy khi học một từ mới trước hết chúng ta phải học cách phát âm đúng và đọc đúng trọng âm từ.

Nhìn chung chỉ có một số quy tắc về trọng âm:

– Đối với nhũng động từ có hai âm tiết thì trọng âm thường rơi vào âm tiết thứ hai: begin [bi’gin], pollute [pə’lu:t]

– Đối với danh từ và tính từ có hai âm tiết thì trọng âm thường rơi vào âm tiết thứ nhất: labour (n) [‘leibə], basic (adj) [‘beisik]

– Những danh từ có đuôi là -sion, -tion hoặc -cian thì trọng âm chính thường rơi vào âm tiết ngay trước đó (âm tiết thứ hai từ cuối lên): precision [pri’siʒn], communication [kə,mju:ni’keiʃn], mathematician [,mæ θəmə’tiʃn]

– Những danh từ có đuôi là -ity, -logy hoặc -graphy thì trọng âm chính thường rơi vào âm tiết thứ ba từ cuối lên:

stability [stə’biləti]

technology [tek’nɔlədʒi]

geography [dʒi’ɔgrəfi]

– Những tính từ có đuôi là -ic thì trọng âm chính cũng thường rơi vào âm tiết ngay trước đó (âm tiết thứ hai từ cuối lên):

Còn những tính từ có đuôi là -ical thì trọng âm chính thường rơi vào âm tiết thứ ba từ cuối lên:

electrical [i’lektrikəl]                        mathematical [,mæ θəmə’tiʃn]

– Những từ sau: khi là động từ thì trọng âm rơi vào âm tiết thứ hai, khi là danh từ thì trọng âm rơi vào âm tiết thứ nhất:

– conflict                 – contrast                      – export                 – increase

– import                  – insult                           – protest                – produce

– progress               – rebel                            – record                 – suspect

– survey                   – transfer                                                      – transport

Ví dụ: conflict (n) [’kɔnflikt]                         conflict (v) [kən’flikt]

– Đối với nhũng danh từ ghép (viết liền nhau) thì trọng âm thường rơi vào âm tiết thứ nhất:

gateway [’geitwei]

guidebook [‘gaidbuk]

– Những từ có đuôi như sau thì thường có trọng âm chính rơi vào âm tiết cuối:

-ee:                                           agree [ə’gri:], referee [,refə‘ri:]

-eer:                                          volunteer [,Vɔtan’tiə]

-ese:                                          Vietnamese [,vjetnə’mi:z]

-aire:                                         questionnaire l^kwestʃə’neə]

-ique/ -esque:                           unique [ju:’ni:k]

-ain (đối với động từ):              retain [ri’tein]

Lưu ý: Trên đây chỉ là một vài quy tắc đánh trọng âm. Tuy nhiên ngay cả những quy tắc này cũng có rất nhiều ngoại lệ. Vì thế các em học sinh phải nắm chắc cách phát âm và trọng âm của từ khi học các từ mới và tra cứu từ điển khi cảm thấy nghi ngờ.
