TO DO VÀ TO GO

To do và to go – giống như to be và to have – là các động từ bất qui tắc được dùng phổ biến. Cách tôi nhất để tự bạn làm quen với to do và to go là xem các thì của chúng.
Vấn đề 1 – Hôm nay – Thì hiện tại (Today – Present tense)
Nhớ lại ở Lesson 17 chúng ta sử dụng thì presenl tense biểu thị điều gì đó hiện dang xảy ra bây giờ. Chúng ta cũng dùng nó để thể hiện một điều gì đó là một hành động theo thói quen, hoặc một điều xảy ra vào mọi lúc.
Thì present tense của to do có hai dạng do và does. Thì present tense của to go cũng có hai dạng: go và goes.
(TO DO) PRESENT TENSE (TO GO) PRESENT TENSE
I do we do I go we go
you do you do you go you go
he, she, it does they do he, she, it goes they go
He goes to the bank early. 1 do all my servings by hand.
Dạng tiếp diễn đôi lúc các động từ to do và to go có thể được dùng để diễn tả hành động đang tiếp diễn. Những động từ diễn tả hành động đang tiếp diễn thường nằm ở thì hiện tại tiếp diễn (present Progressive tense). Thì hiện tại tiếp diễn luôn được thành lập bằng cách dùng trợ động từ am, is hoặc are.
(TO DO) PRESENT PROGRESSIVE TENSE
I am doing we are doing
you are doing you care doing
he, she, it /s doing they are doing
(TO GO) PRESENT PROGRESSIVE TENSE
I do going we are going
ho, she, it /s going they are going 
I am doing the best job I can
They are going to the convention in Seattle.
TEST 1. Sau mỗi một từ được cho dưới đây, viết dạng đúng của thì hiện tại tiếp diễn của động từ trong dấu ngoặc đơn.

Vấn để 2 – Hôm qua – Thì quá khứ (Yesteiday – Past tense)
Có lẽ bạn nhớ rằng thì quá khứ của một động từ diễn tả một điều gì đó đã xảy ra trong quá khứ. Dưới đây là cách thành lập thì past tense của các động từ to do và to go. Lưu ý rằng các dộng từ to do và to go chỉ có một dạng ở thì past tense.
(TO DO) PASTTENSE (TO GO) PAST TENSE

Example: Her group did an excellent job. Ann went for a consultation. Hành động tiếp diễn trong quá khứ bằng cách sử dụng các trợ động từ ở thì quá khứ là was và were, bạn có thể thành lập dạng của thì quá khứ tiếp diễn. Các dạng của thì quá khứ tiếp diễn (past Progressive tense) diễn tả hành động đã xảy ra liên tục trong quá khứ. Dưới đây là cách mà các động từ to do và to go được dùng ở thì quá khứ tiếp diễn.
(TO DO) PAST PROGRESSIVE TENSE
I was doing we were doing

he, she, it was doing they were doing
(TO GO) PAST PROGRESSIVE TENSE I was going we were going
yon were gone you were going
he, she, it was gone they were going.
Example: Barbara was doing her exercises at 9 o’clock last night.
Four of them were going to the training session.

Vấn đề 3 – Ngày mai – Thì tương lai
Để diễn tả một điều gì đó sẽ xảy ra trong tương lai, chúng ta dùng future tense. Trợ động từ will được dùng với thì future tense. Dưới đây là cách thành lập thì tương lai của các động từ to do và to go. Lưu ý rằng thì tương lai của các động từ to do và to go chỉ có một dạng.
(TO DO) FUTURE TENSE I will do we will do
you will do you will do
he, she, it will do they will do
(TOGO) FUTURE TENSE I will go we will go
you will go you will go
he, she, it will go they will go
Example: Our nontechnical employees will do the preliminary checking. The proposal will go to all our managers for review
Hành động tiếp diễn trong tương lai: Thì tương lai tiếp diễn được dùng để diễn tả hành động sẽ tiếp diễn trong tương lai. Dưới đây là cách thành lập thì tương lai tiếp diễn của các động từ to do và to go.
