PERIOD 2. Demonstrative adjectives and pronouns and ordinal numbers

1. Đại từ và tính từ chỉ định (Demonstrative adjectives and pronouns)

– This, that, these, those

+ This / These: dùng để chỉ người hoặc vật ở gần người nói.

+ That / Those: dùng để chỉ người hoặc vật ở xa người nói.

1. Đại từ chỉ định (Demonstrative pronouns)

Đại từ chỉ định có thể đứng độc lập, làm chủ ngữ hoặc tân ngữ trong câu.

Số ít: This/That	This is my friend. (Đây là bạn tôi.) What is this? (Đây là cái gì?) -It is a pencil. (Nó là một  bút chì)	That is my sister. (Đó là chị tôi.) What is that? (Đó là cái gì?) -It is a rubber. (Nó là một cục tẩy.)
Số nhiều: These/Those	These are my friends. (Đây là các bạn tôi.) What are these? (Đây là những cái gì?) -They are pencils. (Chúng là những cái bút chì.)	Those are my sisters.(Đó là các chị tôi) What are those? (Đó là những cái gì) -They are rubber. (Chúng là những cục tẩy.)

Tính từ chỉ định (Demonstrative adjectives)

– Tính từ chỉ định có chức năng như tính từ, đứng trước danh từ và bổnghĩa cho danh từ đó.

Số ít: this/that	I like this book. (Tôi thích cuốn sách này.)	Mai likes that book. (Mai thích cuốn sách kia/đó)
Số nhiều: these/those	I like these books. (Tôi thích những cuốn sách này.)	Mai likes those books. (Mai thích những cuốn sách kia/đó.)

Sốtừ (Numbers)

– Sốtừcóhailoại: sốđếm (cardinal numbers) vàsốthứtự (ordinal numbers).

·      Sốđếmthườngđivớicácdanhtừvàđểchỉvềsốlượng…: one book, three men…	·      Sốthứtựthườngđivớicácdanhtừvàđểchỉvềthứtự, vịtrí: the first lesson, the second grade…

Chú ý: cáchchuyểntừsốđếm sang sốthứtự:

• Số thứ tự cấu tạo bằng cách thêm “th” vào sau số đếm và thêm mạo từ xác định “the” trước nó, trừ các số: 1 (the first), 2(the second), 3(the third) cũng như các số ghép với chúng như 21(the twenty-first), 22(the twenty-second)…
• Có những trường hợp chính tả biến đổi: five – the fifth (ve => f), nine – the ninth, twenty – the twentieth (y =>ie).

4. Our (three/third) lesson starts at 9.35 A.M.
